Transport Infrastructure Management
As the Murray and Roberts Group, we have an investment in the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link Project.
The 20 year concession is to design, build, part-finance, operate and maintain this 80 kilometre project. The concession is held by Bombela Concession Company, and as the M&R Tolcon Group, we hold an interest in the company that is responsible for Facilities Management thereof.
Duties of the Bombela Operating Company (BOC) will include security services linked via radio to a security control centre which will be manned 24 hours a day, seven days and will monitor the overall system by means of CCTV cameras and intrusion detection systems. The automatic fare collection system (AFC) will make use of contactless reusable cards which can be purchased from station kiosks and vending machines as well as authorised agents.
Nine of the 10 stations will be served by a feeder bus system (excludes OR Thambo), consisting of 125 buses on 430 km of routes with bus stops every 500 metres. Frequency of operation is every 12 minutes at peak and every 18 minutes off-peak.
A central control facility will monitor rail and bus traffic data, maintenance, fire detection and security systems.
BOC will be responsible for the management of the 10 stations which involves maintenance (including lifts and escalators), ventilation, cleaning. BOC will also maintain the tracks, bridges, electrical and mechanical equipment, fare collection equpment and signalling systems.
